Travis has been a longtime resident of Tennessee, growing up in the Germantown (Memphis) area. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis where he received a Master of Science degree in Counseling. Travis worked on many research projects, including clients’ experiences in psychotherapy as well as looking at the strength of preconceived ideas in clinicians about clients.
Travis’s interest in psychotherapy occurred at the age of 12, while training in martial arts. Travis had an interest in human thought and behavior and peoples abilities to overcome difficulties and stresses, looking to psychology and philosophy for answers. After being ranked 8th in the world as a black belt in high school, Travis turned his pursuits to academics, psychology in particular, upon attending college. Travis’ psychotherapy work can be described as cognitive-behavioral, looking at people’s problems and abilities from a rational and emotional perspective, with an emphasis on the choices we make in relationships, work, and life and how these choices affect us.
